Precedent Capsule
A rare and beautifully preserved piece of Australian hi-fi history — the Precedent Capsule radiogram, dating back to 1963. Produced in Melbourne for only a short period, these units are seldom seen today, making this example an exceptional find.
The cabinet is a true highlight: pressed tin with flawless original fabric grill fronts, paired with glass panels, aluminium facias, and original metal badging. A striking mid-century design that reflects the craftsmanship and bold style of the era.
Fully restored by us at Retraphonics; this unit has been carefully returned to original working order. All paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, and every valve socket cleaned and replaced where necessary for long-term reliability. Inside, the valve amplifier delivers the warm, rich sound these systems are known for, and the AM radio receiver tunes a wide range of stations with ease.
At its heart is an English-made BSR fully automatic record player, capable of stacking and playing up to 8–10 records consecutively. Fully serviced, it runs smoothly and as intended. Paired with Rola full-range speakers, it produces a powerful and authentic vintage listening experience.
Option to have your phone play through the unit at ease too, for those moments in between cooking :)
This Precedent Capsule is more than a radiogram — it’s a rare example of early 1960s Australian design and sound, restored to a standard that ensures both function and originality are preserved.
