Maples Bluebird Radiogram

from A$4,500.00

Tweet tweet… she’s landed. The Maples Bluebird Stereogram is back in flight.

And what a beauty she is.

We’ve restored a lot of special stereograms over the years — but this one? This one’s got soul. The Maples Bluebird, developed for the prestigious Maples Department Store in Melbourne, was a premium offering in every sense of the word. Likely designed by Precedent and featuring top-end Kriesler electronics, this was a flagship unit — and easily one of the best-sounding stereograms ever built on Australian soil.

This wasn’t something you picked up at the local Myer or flicked through in a Sunday catalogue. This was built for a customer who knew what they wanted — and was willing to pay for it. Hand-crafted cabinet work, elegant curves, and a sound system that was decades ahead of its time. Maples was known for their high-end furniture, and with the Bluebird, they married luxury furniture with elite audio.

We've given this one the full Retraphonics treatment — rebuilt, re-tuned, and revived with the patience and care these old girls deserve. Inside, she houses a British-made BSR turntable, fully restored, cleaned, and re-lubricated for silky-smooth operation. Load up your favourite vinyl and let it glide. We've also fitted a brand new ceramic cartridge and stylus, ready to play both modern pressings and those well-loved family treasures.

Here’s what’s been done:

  • Every wax capacitor replaced with high-spec polyester caps

  • All electrolytic capacitors updated for safety and long-term reliability

  • Signal paths cleaned and re-soldered for optimum sound

  • The original Kriesler valve amplifier serviced and sounding absolutely mint

  • Cabinet carefully cleaned, oiled, and polished to show off that mid-century craftsmanship

The sound? It’s warm, powerful, and shockingly full. This isn’t some weak little background music box — this is a room-filler. The original Kriesler full-range speakers, still in top condition, deliver a smooth, rich tone that makes vinyl truly sing. There’s something about that valve warmth that just gets you — and this one has it in spades.

No gimmicks, no lights, no frills — just pure, honest analog sound in a stunning piece of Australian history.

The original Maples building still stands today on Chapel Street, Melbourne, but units like this? They’re vanishingly rare. This is a radiogram for the serious collector, the nostalgic heart, or anyone who understands the value of things made properly.

Available for audition in our Gold Coast showroom. For interstate buyers, we ship Australia-wide with care and precision.
